My Dog-Friendly Neighbourhood: The Stately Hound’s Guide to Chiswick, London

If you’ve woken up this Bank Holiday Monday feeling clueless on how to enjoy the extra day off, help is at paw with our latest ‘My Dog-Friendly Neighbourhood’ feature courtesy of our BFFs at The Stately Hound.

With stylish tastes and a fondness for sharing their ultimate wish-lists, the boys at ‘Stately’ live by the motto that West is Best. Today, they share their favourite dog-friendly hangouts from their West London neighbourhood of Chiswick. Over to you Stately Hound ...

Chiswick W4 is our turf. It’s where four-legged blondes walk the walk and The Stately Hound talks the talk. It’s a coffee and canine culture kind of ‘hood, with a vast array of high-end stores and award-winning Michelin-starred restaurants. Close to the river, the walks along the Thames in summer are breathtaking, though be warned, with more than a handful of pubs to choose from, all overlooking the river, it’s easy to waste away the hours basking in the sun. So what do we get up to in between editing The Stately Hound?

As we live half a mile from CHISWICK HOUSE, it would be rude of us not to pay a visit to the glorious parks, with sumptuous scenery, that dominate the daily routine for many a well-trained pack. Swathed in history, the House dates back to the early 18th Century and the gardens offer an array of attractions. From the 300ft long glass conservatory to the Famous Cedars of Lebanon, it’s more than your average walk in the park.

To the right of the “Orange Tree Garden’, in the shape of an amphitheater which surrounds a circular pool with an obelisk in the centre, you’ll find a tomb bearing a Latin inscription. The translation reads ‘Under this stone lies Lilly, my dear hound…’ who it’s thought belonged to Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, the Great, Great, Great, Great aunt of the late Princess Diana.

Chiswick House even has its very own ANNUAL DOG SHOW, where over 500 dogs of all shapes and sizes take part in various categories – including Naughtiest Dog, which we’re sure our Casper is a shoe-in to win one year! This year marks the 10th Anniversary Chiswick House Dog Show, taking place on Sunday 28th September. Find our more: HERE.

When we’re not admiring the lush surroundings of Chiswick House, you’ll find us at our favourite hang outs including:

This gastropub serves great wines and beers, along with a delicious lunch and dinner menu. We recommend the Aberdeen Angus beef burger, medium rare of course! Great times have been had here over the years, mostly due to their fabulous beer garden. It's the place to go to on a lazy Sunday afternoon to dog-watch.
