Christmas Wish List | For The Dog Who Has (Nearly) Everything

When a recent tally of your dog's wardrobe reveals that he has four designer dog sweaters (three cashmere, one merino), three dog coats, one pet snood, one bathrobe, seven bandanas, one rucksack harness and no less than nine collar and lead sets… AND you haven't even totted up the content of the toy box, it's fair to say Basil doesn't want for much. However, when faced with such a challenge at gifting season, I say go less essential more luxury, less doggy business more fun. So to that end, I share this year’s wish list for the dog, who has (nearly) everything.

Cashmere Star Dog Sweater Blue
In dog world, modelling for Ruby Rufus is like popping on a pair of angel wings and sashaying down the Victoria’s Secrets' catwalk, so ever since Basil appeared in their 2015 campaign we've had a spot as soft as their cashmere for their brand. An oldie but a goodie (one of their signature designs), I've been starry eyed for this style for quite some time and it's the perfect festive frivolity for my own little star. Priced £60, Leadthewalk.com

Vincent Poop Bag Case in French Navy
Whether it’s for me or Basil, a well-made leather accessory is always welcome under our tree, and this petite and perfectly formed case adds some ooh la la to the matter of merde/turd! Not just a flight of fancy, it’s designed to fit a roll of bags, and has a little eyelet on the back to pull your bag through. We hope to be swinging this little number off Basil’s Maison Le Lou lead on his Boxing Day walk. If navy’s not your poop bag, it also comes in rich Wine or Grey. Priced £38, Maisonlelou.com

Assorted Dog Tags
When your dog has nine dog collars (seriously), switching pet ID tags becomes the bane of your life, and the destroyer of manicures. The tag department is an area that the dog, who has nearly everything is lacking and let me tell you, nice tags are hard to come by! Satisfying my obsession of tags to match your dog’s collar hardware are these beauties:

  • Silver from Mutts & Hounds - we’ll take Wake Me For Food and Free Kisses Given slogan tags, as well as the Bone and Star motif styles from Mutts & Hounds collection of handmade ID tags. Made from 100% solid Pewter, they are priced £15.99 each at Muttsandhounds.co.uk
  • Gold from Broughton & Co – Basil had the key to my heart the minute I laid my eyes on him, so this heavy-duty heart tag is just perfect! Plus it unlocks so I can easily switch it another collar with ruining my nails. Personalise with your dog’s name and ID info as part of the £20 price tag at Lovebroughtonandco.com

Houndworthy Christmas Cracker for Dogs in Cranberry Red
Beg all your like Basil but I won't be sharing my pigs in blankets on Christmas Day. However, if you’re lucky you might get a cracking surprise with this year’s festive offering from Houndworthy – the HOUNDCRACKER, a handcrafted Christmas cracker for dogs containing 100% natural, grain-free wild game sausages. Note – the only banger inside this cracker is of the sausage variety, so it won’t petrify your pooch when you open it. From £11, Houndworthy.com

Boy’s Best Friend Dog Toy Bundle
Basil is adept at destroying soft toys – his record is around a minute, but I gave him a Grrrrona Squeaky Dog Toy earlier in the year from Haute Diggity Dog and it is still going strong. I’m not sure if it’s to do with the size, as it’s not big enough for him to get much of a grip between his legs to give it a real tug, or because it’s lacking on a tempting seam to tear open but whatever the reason, he likes it and it’s still in tact. So this bundle of toys including a Furcedes, Pawtier and I Bone, looks like his kind of play to squeak and fetch. Priced £29.97, PetsPyjamas.com

'Lilac Rabbit’ Faux Fur Blanket
I snapped up a grey sheepskin gilet from Whistles in the Black Friday promotions, and I swear I caught Basil giving me stink eye when I hung it up rather than laying it down for him to snooze on. So in pursuit of his enhancing his favourite past time - sleeping, I’d say he’ll have hit the jackpot to find this finest of faux fur dog blankets under the tree, in beautiful lilac and grey tones. From £70, Charleychau.com
