Shop for a ‘Paws': Barkarama’s Online Stella & Dot Charity Trunk Show

At the beginning of 2014, I shared a personal goal of wanting to do at least two lots of fundraising this year to benefit my favourite kind of furry friend, as well as those, who need a dog to assist them though their daily lives. I already had one idea in mind at the time of posting, inspired by one of my business sidelines – working as an independent stylist for boutique accessories brand Stella & Dot – but I’ve been waiting for the right time to get it off the ground.

April 1 saw the start of National Pet Month (ends May 5), an annual event promoting responsible pet ownership, helping pet charities across the UK to raise funds and recognising the love and companionship our pets provide. To celebrate, Basil and I are inviting you to shop our online Stella & Dot Charity Trunk Show on Wednesday 30 April, and in return I pledge to donate and equally share all of my earnings (25% of sales) between my chosen charities - Dogs Trust and Support Dogs.

Whether it’s something to treat yourself, or a gift to say Thank You, Happy Birthday or I Love You, shop our Stella & Dot Trunk Show in the knowledge that you are doing it for a good ‘paws’!

We're tail-waggingly crazy for the paw print charm (£22) shown above, made even more precious when teamed up with a Lovemark Charm (£12) or a Signature Charm of your dog’s initial (£22) but with something to suit all tastes and budgets, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

You can double up your efforts to shop for a cause by purchasing an item from Stella & Dot’s Autism Awareness Collection. Exclusively in the month of April, all net proceeds from the collection, including this beautiful and bright Visionary Bracelet (£35), will benefit the National Autistic Society.

Dogs Trust
The UK's largest dog welfare charity, Dogs Trust cares for around 16,000 dogs at their nationwide network of 18 Rehoming Centres. With a policy of never destroying a healthy dog, just some of their work includes running subsidised neutering campaigns in areas of the UK with the most acute stray dog problems, hosting thousands of classroom presentations each year and making free teaching resources available to schools across the country.

Dogs Trust also run a FREEDOM Project helping pet owners fleeing domestic violence by fostering their animals while they start a new life, and the HOPE Project giving preventative veterinary care to dogs belonging to homeless people. A £25 donation would pay the cost of a day's care for one of their dogs, whereas a £90 donation would pay for a dog to be castrated or spayed. Click for more info: Dogstrust.org.uk

Support Dogs
A national charity dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life for people with various medical conditions by providing, training and supporting specialist assistance dogs. Support Dogs help with everyday tasks for people with physical disabilities, give advanced warning of seizures for people with epilepsy and provide safety and support for children with autism and their families.

Support Dogs is the only organisation in the UK to train Seizure Alert Dogs and they have recently trained the first Guide/Seizure Alert Dog in partnership with Guide Dogs for the Blind. Receiving no government funding, the charity relies on donations and fundraising to continue their work transforming lives. Just £25 buys leads, collars and identity disks, and £100 covers the costs of spaying/neutering a dog. Click for more info: Support-dogs.org.uk
