He’s only gone and done it! UK ugly dog Mugly has won the high-pawfile title of the World’s Ugliest Dog at the annual contest in California and we are betting that he’s currently on ‘cloud ca-nine’.
Beating off stiff competition from 29 other ‘uglies’, Chinese Crested Mugly accepted his new-found status under the watch of media from around the globe including a film crew for Channel 5, who according to Mugly’s pooch pal Rocky Noble are making a documentary called ‘Mutt Ugly’ about the UK champ. Mugly’s hu-mum Bev Nicholson, who he refers to as ‘er indoors’ spoke of his win: "I couldn't speak when they announced Mugly's name. I didn't know which way to look. I was shaking as much as the dog."
Being crowned World’s Ugliest Dog is yet another coup in eight year-old Mugly’s growing list of canine credentials. In 2005 he won the title Britain's Ugliest Dog and more recently he appeared in Sky 1's series A Different Breed where he got married to a fellow co-star in a lavish £20,000 wedding ceremony.
Mugly is also a pooch patron for a number of charitable causes including Many Tears Rescue and Pets As Therapy for whom he takes part in a scheme called Read to Dogs, which sees him go into local schools and listens to reluctant readers read him a story.
