Puparazzi: The Top Ten Pup Personality 2014 Entries

At the beginning of February, we launched our inaugural Pup Personality 2014 competition on Facebook to crown the pooch, who scored highest at winning over our hearts and minds with their canine charisma.

We received over 65 gorgeous, personality-packed entries all hoping to get their paws on the wooftacular £350 prize package to be enjoyed by the winning dog and their owner. As the clock struck midnight on Friday night, seven-year-old Hungarian Vizsla OTTY BARRETT (pictured above) scooped Barkarama’s Pup Personality title with a whopping 831 likes to his name …

Otty’s win is well deserved, as both he and his owner Lucy have worked hard to promote and raise funds for a disease called Polymyositis, which has started to appear in his breed and that he himself suffers from. Polymyositis sufferers experience problems swallowing, difficulty eating and muscle wastage around the head – Otty struggles so much that Lucy has been feeding him by hand for the last year or so. In his Pup Personality entry Lucy says: “My noble man is happy to please and make smile. He’s been very poorly last year and has amazed everyone by pulling through. I think he should be crowned Barkarama’s Pup Personality 2014 for being so brave.”

Otty’s win lands the pair a stunning head and neck portrait by artist Ros Shiers, a personalised paw print charm keepsake from Silver Pet Prints, a luxury lead and collar by Hiro + Wolf from Pup Tart and an Alpha & Ruby's gift box of hand-decorated, bone-shaped dog cookies.

Hot on Otty’s heels was BOSTON, a four-year-old Boston Terrier, who’s owner Yasimin says: “I believe Boston should be pup personality of the year because he is literally the perfect dog. His temperament is great. Having been with us since he was four weeks old, he has grown into a ball-obsessed, loyal, sweet, fun-loving boy. He's such a sweet natured little boy with plenty of energy to play but also loves nothing better than a snuggle on the sofa with his humans. He loves chasing his ball and sometimes forgets how to stop so ends up flipping over or somersaulting in the air without even flinching, he just needs to get to his ball. He has the patience of a saint.”

Next up is BAILEY, a three-year-old Staffie, who’s owner Emma says: “Bailey is one of nine dogs, who I love very much. Each one has a special connection with me and not only did I rescue four of them, they rescued me and did a very good job of it. Bailey is a big bear and an icon for the breed, he's a big softy and loves everyone, he's here for me when times are tough and he keeps me going, gives me a reason to smile.”

Both Boston and Bailey win our runner up prizes including a Pup Tart gift box containing an East End Best Friend Giant Pom Pom Toy & a Pup Tart Liberty print Bow Tie, as well a Love Pup Cake & Healthy Heart Cookie Dog Biscuits courtesy of Alpha & Ruby's.

Also featuring in the top ten …

NELLIE, a two-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. Nellie's owner Sarah says: “she was born on Halloween making her a Jack Russell Terror! She loves rearranging the garden, chasing her tail and mud baths! She is a cheeky pup but has a loving personality. She is gentle in nature and sees her chicken friends everyday. She takes her old pal, Bobby the cockerel, a slice of bread everyday ... But has been known to eat it when she was little! She loves to cuddle up and watch TV with her favourite teddy, twoof with her pals and write her blog.”

WILLOW, a 11-week-old Shih tzu. Willow's owner Rachel says: “I think she should win because she is just the sweetest little girl with such a big heart, so loving and makes me happy everyday.”

CARRIE BRADSHAW, a two and half year-old Cavapoo. Carrie's owner Naomi says: “she has a serious habit of chewing her Mummy's collection of designer shoes. Carrie loves watching Sex and the City and is waiting for her very own Mr Big.”

MARLENE, an 18-month-old French Bulldog. Marlene's owner Leila says: “Marlene from London is quite the dog model. She has such long slim legs that her friends nicknamed her the "Naomi Campbell" of the Frenchie world... Every walk is a potential catwalk for her! This photo is her posing for her own advertising campaign, as she is as equally known for producing her very own unique scent (L'eau du Marlene). Her favourite past times are chasing cats, chewing socks, eating cheese and bacon, park patrols with her best pal Bo, and snoring.”

HENRY, a four-year-old Border Terrier. Henry's owner Chloe says: “he's my shadow I don't know what I'd do without him.”

HALO, a nine-week-old Boxer pup. Halo's owner says: “we have called her Halo, as we believe she is an angel sent to us by our previous dog Fraya whom we lost recently to cancer. Although we haven't had her long she is helping to fill the void in our hearts left there by the loss of our beloved Fraya.”

MISAKI, a two-year-old Alaskan Malamute. Misaki's owner Dawn says: “she's the happiest dog, always smiling and wagging her tail. She loves people, especially if they give her belly rubs, and in return you get covered in doggie kisses. She's also great with other dogs and always up for a game of chase. And most of all she loves playing in the snow as you can see from the photo.“
