I’m a sucker for packaging. Basil is a sucker for tasty treats. Ticking both our boxes and spiking a canine trend are dog treats in a tin. I’m pro tin-packaged treats, as not only do they keep Basil’s edible source of happiness fresh, they also ensure that my handbag or coat remain a crumb-free zone. Give them a whirl and you’ll soon discover that they’re great for grabbing your dog’s attention too. A quick rattle of a treat-filled tin and Basil comes running or stands to attention.
Here’s three treats in a tin to try but if you know of any others fill us in @Barkarama or comment at the end of this post. Most of all - enjoy!
M’Hearties Little Cod Treats by Lily’s Kitchen
These ones are on the ermmm… fragrant side but luckily the tin retains most of the stink so who am I to let a whiff get in the way of his joy? Featuring the ‘quality’ tick boxes we've come to expect from Lily’s Kitchen – natural, additive and preservative free, suitable for pets with allergies etc, the M'Hearties mini heart-shaped treats are made from 100% Icelandic pressed cod fillet making them a great source of Omega 3. Priced at £5.95 including the lovely illustrated keepsake tin, PURCHASE at Lilyskitchen.co.uk
Beautiful Joe’s Ethical Dog Treats
A Crufts discovery, Basil has enjoyed his fair share of these hand-made, air-dried, pure ox liver nibbles, which we serve from their cool tobacco-style tin. Pleasing packaging and taste aside, the Beautiful Joe’s team got our vote as our number one treat when we discovered that for every packet of treats you buy, they donate the same volume to a canine rescue home within the UK. Beautiful Joe’s Ethical Dog Treats are available as subscription bundles so the more your dog craves the more you save but if you’d like to trial without the commitment, tins are priced at £2.50 and individual 50g packs are £4. The Dog House Training Treats by Michel Roux
So this is a treat in a tin Basil is yet to try but with a dog-loving, Michelin-starred chef having a hand in their flavour, I’m confident he’d be happy with the contents. Made in collaboration with The Dog House – a dog training and activity holiday facility in the Welsh valleys, these Random Rewards offer five flavours including Ostrich & Cherry, Seaweed & Orange, Cheese & Cranberry, Venison & Blueberry and Salmon & Trout, which are all free from artificial preservatives, colourings, wheat and gluten.
